Meet the Team

Meet the key members of the Chef Aly Team

His range of menus he’ll create for your tour or production will be truly outstanding.

Aly Mahmoud

Where do we start with Chef Aly? Brendan O’Carroll, the creator of Mrs. Brown’s Boys, calls him a ‘Fecking food genius’. We agree.

A lot of people will recognise him as being the chef on All Round to Mrs Browns, but Chef Aly has spent many years working around the world developing his culinary skills.

Egyptian born, Chef Aly has always wanted to cook. He left school and went straight to catering college. When he graduated, Aly joined a Cairo hotel chain as a trainee chef. Whilst working as Demi Chef de Partie at the renowned Four Seasons Resort Sharm El Sheikh Hotel, he was awarded Employee of the Year and also received a personal thank you from the President of Egypt for his work. He then set sail for three years working as sous chef on the Island Escape cruise ship before returning to terra firma and becoming Head Chef at Ziniz Restaurant in Yorkshire, where he currently lives with his wife and two children.

From 2011, Chef Aly has worked within the tour catering industry and has provided fabulous dishes for stars such as Madonna, Paul McCartney, Lionel Richie, Bryan Adams and Eric Clapton and for productions including the MTV Awards, Walking with Dinosaurs, Batman Live and the BAFTAs.

Chef Aly has also worked as a private chef but in 2015 he set up his own tour catering company to have more involvement in the menu choices using his vast experience, knowledge and outstanding creativity. When, in 2017, Brendan O’Carroll wanted to introduce a food element in to his new TV show, All Round to Mrs Brown’s, there was only one chef he wanted to ask, Chef Aly and a little star was born!

You will not be disappointed by his vision and quality.

Gary has now worked on tours and productions from Adele to ZZ Top often working closely with Chef Aly along the way.

Gary McDonnell

We think Gary should write a book with the amount of stories he has told us over the years about his life! Gary found his calling to be a chef later than Chef Aly. The Merchant Navy, press photographer, club promoter, bar owner, roadie and even a grape picker were all jobs that Gary had prior to a career in food!

When Gary decided he wanted to become a chef he started out by working for free as a kitchen porter whilst the head chef trained him how to cook. This was an inspired move and with his love of music and his previous experience as a roadie, a career in tour catering was a perfect fit. Gary’s first job was at a small venue called Wembley Stadium! Working in the pastry section with just one other chef, he was soon making desserts for a cast and crew of nearly 600. Making cookies exclusively for J-Lo is just one of his many claim to fame stories!

Always learning and experimenting with food you are very likely to be served one of Gary’s new inventions such as a new twist on coconut cake or his new Tequila Sunrise cheese cake.
